China’s Ji Jun Xu towers over the 56 remaining players of WPT Prime Cambodia Opener

It was another fiery day at WPT Prime Cambodia as players made their way in to NagaWorld Phnom Penh Ballroom for the last two entry flights of the Opener $150K GTD. At the close of registration, Day 1C drew a big crowd of 164 and the Day 1D turbo flight pulled in 82. Combined with the the other entry days, the Opener amassed a grand total of 442 entries to well exceed the advertised guarantee. The remaining 56 players are all in the money and are now looking at a far larger prize pool of US$ 214,670. While everyone is guaranteed US$ 900, the goal is to pocket the hefty US$ 43,105 first prize. We’ve got the day’s highlights, Day 2 draw, chip counts, and payouts just below.

DAC 9129WPT Opener Day 1C Bubble

Day 1C brought some new faces to the tournament area. A couple of lovely ones gracing the field were WSOP bracelet winner Jiyoung Kim and Japan‘s Yuri Ishida. However, both women were not so fortunate. finding the rail well before the bubble round. Among those that navigated the day’s challenges were NagaWorld SuperStack runner up Trent Fechter, Viet Nam high roller Hieu Ngo, and USA’s Kyle Bao Qouc Diep who was relieved to have had more success than the previous starting days. One player very glad to have survived the bubble round was Thailand‘s Thanakrit Lachaima. All in and at risk with Ah6d against a player’s Kc3d, it seemed to be the end when the board ran KdJdKh. However, with the next two cards coming 9d and 7d, he survived with a higher flush.

After an hour of hand for hand action, the bubble finally burst. Chip leader Ji Jun Xu turned his Ah2h into a flush on the river to dust a player’s top pair. Xu bagged up 702,000 in chips and will enter Day 2 with an overwhelming advantage.

DSC 8128Michael Falcon

Firing up in the evening was the Day 1D turbo flight, which was the last chance for players to get in on the huge opening pot. Another 82 gave it a whirl with only 10 of them advancing to Day 2. Racking up the biggest pile was Denmark’s Michael Kim Falcon who muscled the table throughout the bubble round until he eliminated India‘s Laksh Pal Singh to bring an end to the day. This was Falcon‘s first poker series since the pandemic and was aleady off to a swell start. He will enter Day 2 ranked 4th in chips.
